Chairman's Report March 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Firstly I must apologise for not submitting a report this year and for not being visible down at the pitches this season. Owing to the difficult economic climate I have had to spend more time at my business and have therefore not been able to devote as much time to the football club as I would have wished.

I feel it is an understatement to say that it has been a difficult season this year.  Firstly we have had two teams fold and in addition we have had various RESPECT issues to deal with throughout the club. We have also struggled to fill the position of Welfare Officer, a role that needs to be in place for the start of next year in order to make sure we are granted our FA Accreditation Number. Thankfully Scott McPherson has stepped forward and agreed to carry out this role for the forthcoming season.

It wouldn’t be a Chairman’s statement without me having a little moan, so here goes. I was horrified at the state of the container when I arrived at the pitches this weekend. It looked as though the Army Bomb Squad had been using it for training.

We must look after this equipment as we won’t be buying any more next year due to the lack of money being generated. This has been magnified more by the fact that we aren’t running a tournament this year, the one major source of fund raising we have in the past relied upon. The loss of money from this one event will be approx. £ 1,500.00 (enough to cover the new kit costs for next season). To meet this expenditure we will have to dip into the funds we have in the bank for equipment which means good housekeeping in the container is paramount.

Congratulations must go to Mick Cook’s under 18s and John Horry’s under 10s, both have reached their respective cup finals.  Let’s hope they can finish the job and lift some silverware. Also Adam Leivesley’s under 12s and Mick Cook’s under 18s are on the brink of promotion so let’s hope all goes well for them in the final matches. We also have the men’s team playing in their cup semi final on Sunday 28 March 2010. Commiseration must go to Scott McPherson and the under 9 orange team who narrowly lost in their cup semi final.

With regards to the Bramcote pitches and the MUGA floodlight facility, we are in constant contact with the school concerning these.  Although the grass pitches have been marked out better this year the quality still hasn’t improved enough to satisfy me or I know some of the managers.  I intend bringing this subject up at the next committee meeting and we may need to look again at another facility to give the quality I am looking for.  We will obviously keep you posted as to what is agreed and I would like all your comments.

We have over the past few months had a growing response to the football predictions sheets run by the club to subsidize our funding.  I would like to thank those parents that have stepped into the breach and assisted their team managers in this matter. We need to try and keep raising money through every avenue available and your efforts on this matter are greatly appreciated.

Finally, as this will be the only statement I make this year, thanks must go out to all the Managers and Coaches that help in the running of the teams.  Without your hard work we wouldn’t have a club for the children to enjoy. Thanks also goes out to those unsung heroes who stand in the background and do the mundane tasks such as sub collections, team sheets and administration.  It would be wrong of me to pick out anyone in particular; those parents know who they are!

I would like to extend a special thank you to Karen Haynes who after years of tireless work on the memberships has decided to stand down.  I trust you all will join with me in wishing Karen all the best for the future.

Once we have the dates for the Presentation Evenings sorted out we will notify your all.  I look forward to seeing you all there.

Thanks for taking the time to read this month’s report and I hope to see you all down at the pitches during the next month.

COME ON YOU TIGERS.

Ian Odams
