Junior Cup 1st Round - Grange Park 1-1 Toton Town A.E.T. (Grange Park won 5-4 on penalties)
Toton started the 2010/11 campaign with a cup match on Long Eaton United's ground at Grange Park. Both sides had excellent chances to take the lead in the first half. Most notably; Mulligan's header from a corner was cleared off the line, which lead to a chance for Cheatle who drove in only for the keeper to spill it behind him and take control of the ball just before it reached the goal line.
In the second half, chances fell for Grange Park who had two one-on-ones put straight at Gubbins in goal, in place of the absent Chilton. Toton played excellent football but couldn't get the chance in front of goal. Mulligan had a shot from 25 yards out which was driven just past the post.
After 90 minutes, both sides had managed to keep a clean sheet and force extra time. Park had a chance from 25 yards out which was saved onto the bar right on the half time whistle. The final fifteen minutes was the most eventful of the match with Park having chances from corners, excellently blocked by Arnold and Hallam either side of Cheatle's wondergoal. He received the ball down the left hand side, cut in on his right, back in onto his left beating the player before expertly crashing the ball into the far corner and in off the post.
Minutes later, Park got their equaliser when the ball was played down the left, before being passed across the box and fired into the net. Park finished the game with a free kick which was saved before the referee blew the whistle for a penalty shootout. Cheatle, Gubbins, Belshaw and Mulligan scored for Toton. Hutchinson was unfortunate to miss the 4th penalty which was well saved. The winner was scored, but only just, as Gubbins got a decent hand to it down to his right.
A difficult start for the team, with excellent performances in some parts, with Hallam continuing where he left off in preseason and excelling in his new central defensive role. Next week, Toton play away to Division 2 opponents Sawley Athletic in the first round of the Harry Chilton Cup.
