A well rested and re-engerised Toton side took the field in the face of a keen east wind, and came out of the starting blocks like greyhounds at the track. Market Warsop, however, were of a similar mind, and pushed hard against the Toton defence. The ball was cleared, albeit loosely, only to be put back in by Market Warsop, wrong-footing the Toton defence, and sadly the all ended up in the net before the Toton defence had time to settle in.
Market Warsop continued to press, with a header following a corner going wide, followed by a shot also heading wide. Toton moved up a gear, with Joe Dane leading a charge through midfield and a good shot just slipping wide. Market Warsop again had a quick break, but were stopped in their tracks by Will Price. A deep goal kick went straight over the Market Warsop midfield, letting George Barker set off on one of many good runs of the match, but regrettably was unable to capitalise on the break. Toton tried to take advantage of a corner, but it was cleared well by Market Warsop. Another characteristic quick break from Market Warsop led to one of the oddest incidents of the match, where a shot on goal from Market Warsop was tapped in by a Market Warsop player - who sadly was offside and, happily for Toton, the goal was disallowed.
The Toton pressure continued at the Market Warsop end, with further runs for George Barker and Sam, but again Market Warsop held firm, and at the half time whistle the score remained at 1-0 to Market Warsop.
Whatever Clive and Stuart said at half time had a telling effect on the boys - Toton were pressing constantly into the Market Warsop half, with strong runs from George Barker worrying the Market Warsop defence. However the home team were not a spent force, and broke through to the Toton back line quickly, taking 2 corners in rapid succession, but were unable to find the back of the Toton net again.
The game then shifted into a period of strong domination for Toton, with play practically camping out in the Market Warsop half - desperation started to set in as the minutes ticked by, with the Toton midfield rarely straying from the Market Warsop frontline, and the Toton defence sat squarely on the half way line - even Joe Bloor was tempted to take a shot on goal from just inside the Market Warsop half, which regrettably the keeper handled well. 2 more corners to Toton followed in short order, with a shot from Joe Dane just clearing the bar. Market Warsop were able to make a few breaks, and looked dangerous on a couple of occasions, but Matt Fisher and the Toton backline were able to prevent an further changes to the score line.
Despite every effort, including an injured Mac returning from the sidelines and playing some excellent football, Toton were unable to equalise and at full time the score remained 1-0 to Market Warsop. All credit to the boys and staff for a solid performance, and the boy were able to walk off the pitch with their heads held high. |
